Frequently asked
How much are my credit card points actually worth?
It depends on how you redeem them. Cashing out for statement credit usually gives you the lowest value (0.5–1¢ per point). Booking through the issuer's travel portal is slightly better. Transferring to airline or hotel partners gives you the highest value — often 2–5¢ per point on the right redemption.
Are Chase points worth more than Amex points?
Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer to Hyatt at 1:1, which is the best fixed-rate hotel award chart in the points world (often 2.5–5¢ per point). Amex Membership Rewards have a stronger international airline list (ANA, Flying Blue, Virgin Atlantic). For most US travelers, Chase points are worth slightly more on average.
Should I cash out my points or use them for travel?
Almost always travel. Cashing out for statement credit averages 0.6–1¢ per point. The same points used on a sweet-spot transfer redemption are worth 2–5¢. Cashing out is a 50–80% haircut on value.
What's a 'sweet spot' redemption?
A sweet spot is a partner redemption that costs disproportionately few points relative to the cash price. Examples: 5,000 Hyatt points for a $250 hotel night (5¢/pt), 75,000 American miles for a Qatar Qsuites business-class seat that costs $5,000+ cash (6¢/pt), or 15,000 Turkish miles for any US domestic round-trip (3¢/pt).
How often should I check the value of my points?
Award charts and sweet spots change. Marriott devalued in 2025; Hyatt added peak/off-peak pricing in 2023. We update Goatpack's valuations every 60 days based on current redemptions. Bookmark this calculator and check before any major redemption.
